Yemen: 7 Killed by Lightning Strikes in Al Hudaydah

Seven people have been killed due to lightning strikes and floods in western Yemen, which resulted in the destruction of dozens of homes, according to Yemeni medical and local sources. Dr. Hamza Said, who works at the hospital in Al-Luhayya district in Al Hudaydah governorate by the Red Sea, reported, "Six women and one man lost their lives, and three were injured due to lightning strikes in Al-Luhayya and Al-Zuhra districts."

The Yemeni news agency "SABA" quoted local sources stating that a family of four women, including two girls, died as a result of a lightning strike that hit the home of citizen Mohammed Ali Haddad in Dayr Al-Sulaymani in Al-Luhayya district. It also mentioned the death of citizen Mohammed Yahya Zabal along with his wife and sister due to a lightning strike that struck their home in Bani Zabal area in Al-Zuhra district, which also resulted in three family members suffering minor injuries and being taken to the hospital.

In Al-Hais district in Al Hudaydah governorate, floods caused the destruction of dozens of homes, according to a local official. The United Nations states that since the beginning of this year, weather fluctuations in Yemen have displaced more than 200,000 people from their homes, many of whom have already been displaced multiple times due to conflict. According to the UN organization, heavy rains expected in the coming weeks are likely to affect nearly two million displaced individuals, threatening lives and livelihoods.
