Iraqi Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, confirmed today, Wednesday, the work on "legislating a special law for health and occupational safety"; he also mentioned conducting numerous inspection campaigns to enforce the social security law and health and safety conditions.
In his speech during the celebration of World Health and Safety Day, Al-Asadi stated that "the ministry will work with the labor and legal committees in the parliament to expedite the legislation of a special law for health and occupational safety since it is considered one of the essential laws to support the labor market in Iraq and reduce accidents and risks in the workplace, in addition to applying health and safety standards in every institution and company in both the public and private sectors." He congratulated "the workers at the National Center for Health and Occupational Safety on the occasion of World Health and Safety Day and the 43rd anniversary of the establishment of the National Center."
He added that "the ministry, as one of its priorities in the National Service Government, is to monitor workers and employers and provide their requirements to ensure their rights and the success of their work in line with the labor market," describing "2024 as the year of labor, as there will be a focus on three important departments: the Department of Labor and Vocational Training, the Retirement and Social Security Department, along with the National Center for Health and Occupational Safety." He also mentioned that a committee has been formed by the ministry to coordinate with the coordinating authority for the provinces to retrieve some departments that were transferred under the law of the transfer of powers.
The minister highlighted "the conduct of a major inspection campaign on brick factories in Baghdad to examine the workers and follow up on the implementation of health and safety procedures and the social security law to create a safe and sound work environment and ensure the rights of workers."
