Video - Rescue of 7 Children Trapped in a Cable Car in Pakistan

The caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwar ul Haq Kakar, announced on the social media platform "X," formerly Twitter, that all the children who were on the stranded cable car in Pakistan have been rescued. Details reveal that seven students and their teacher were trapped in a cable car suspended high above a deep valley in Pakistan on Tuesday after one of the supportive cables snapped, while authorities attempted a "highly dangerous" rescue operation hampered by strong winds before nightfall.

Officials stated that the students had been stuck in the cable car since 7 AM (0200 GMT) while on their way to school in a remote mountainous area in Battagram, located approximately 200 kilometers north of Islamabad. The National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan reported that the cable car malfunctioned before authorities dispatched two military helicopters to conduct the rescue after previous attempts to repair the issue failed.

#Pakistan Army helicopter is on site, however difficulties in approaching the cable car are present, due to the risk of the last cable (which is the only one holding the car) snapping due to rotor thrust. SSG operatives are also planning a recovery mission. Pray for the best outcome. https://t.co/yCfLKBqao1 pic.twitter.com/jZMSbRx20I— The STRATCOM Bureau (@OSPSF) August 22, 2023
