The Minister of National Defense in the Caretaker Government, Maurice Slim, condemned the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and called on the international community "to pressure Israel to stop its aggression," considering that "peace and stability can only be achieved through adherence to the provisions of international resolutions." During his meeting with the Belgian Ambassador to Lebanon, Koen Verfaeck, accompanied by the military attaché Colonel Yves Janssens in Yarze, he emphasized the "necessity of halting daily Israeli aggressions on Lebanon," affirming that "the Lebanese army is in a constant state of readiness and maintains ongoing coordination with UNIFIL to preserve security and stability in the south."
During the meeting, the issue of the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland was discussed, and in this context, Minister Slim called on the international community to "modify its approach to this issue and work on encouraging the displaced to return to safe areas in Syria by providing support and assistance within their country, without linking their return to political solutions." Regarding the Palestinian issue, the Belgian ambassador viewed that "the two-state solution is the only way to achieve just peace," and emphasized the importance of working to avoid escalation in southern Lebanon. The Belgian ambassador also stressed that "the return of Syrian refugees to their country requires the availability of various conditions and factors that do not seem to be present at this time."
