Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanani, confirmed that Iran will respond appropriately and reciprocally to any new sanctions imposed by the U.S. and the "European troika." Kanani stated that any new sanctions based on unfounded allegations are completely rejected, and Iran reserves the right to respond seriously and appropriately to any irresponsible actions.
Regarding the recent meeting of the UN Security Council, Kanani said: "Unilateral sanctions have been used as a legal tool by the U.S. and its allies against Iran, and we have confirmed that the resort to these sanctions is illegal and violates human rights."
The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry added that concerning the nuclear agreement, "The U.S. government illegally withdrew from an international agreement, and European governments have failed to fulfill their obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. Despite the promises made, they have not been able to make up for the U.S.'s breach of its commitments, and the three European governments bear the responsibility of the U.S. in fulfilling its obligations, and they have failed and must bear that responsibility."
He noted that it is "completely illegal and unacceptable for them to take on the role of prosecutor and direct accusations against Iran or impose sanctions based on false allegations." He stated: "We reject these actions and consider them unconstructive, moving in a completely unproductive direction, as the U.S. government and European parties have been moving in this direction for a long time without achieving results." Kanani added: "Instead of providing excuses and directing accusations, European governments should be held accountable for the nuclear agreement with Iran, and we reject any new sanctions based on completely unfounded allegations."
