In the Emirati capital, Abu Dhabi, it has become possible to sip locally brewed beer, not only in the traditional way but also with Gulf flavors, at the first licensed site for the production of alcoholic beverages in the conservative Gulf region that is striving to meet the demands of an increasing number of tourists. Wealthy Gulf states are looking to ease alcohol restrictions, while businesspeople seek to capitalize on these changes. Unlike neighboring countries where alcohol consumption is still subject to strict regulations or even banned, the sale and consumption of alcohol are permitted in six of the seven emirates, while it remains prohibited in Sharjah. However, Abu Dhabi has become the first to surpass production limits, allowing the beer to be consumed on-site where it is manufactured. Since the early 2000s, Abu Dhabi has started to reshape its image to become more liberal, gradually easing social rules, especially those related to alcohol consumption.
