Iraqi Interior Minister Abd al-Amir al-Shammari confirmed today, Wednesday, the continuation of the project to regulate weapons and limit their possession to the state. In a statement, it was noted that "in line with the government program and with the aim of enhancing community peace, the Permanent Committee for Regulating Weapons and Limiting Them to the State continues its meetings under the leadership of Interior Minister Abd al-Amir al-Shammari." The committee held a meeting today with the presence of provincial police leaders to discuss its work during the first quarter of the current year and to review the measures taken.
The statement added that during the meeting, the committee listened to the registration and organization mechanisms and the stages involved, and several decisions were made to develop the work of this committee, particularly regarding the upcoming phase, which involves the purchase of medium weapons from citizens.
Al-Shammari emphasized the commitment to move forward with this project and to provide all necessary resources to ensure its success due to its importance in enhancing security and stability and in ending the phenomenon of weapons beyond the state's control and law. He stressed the importance of the media's role in supporting national efforts and encouraging all segments of society to support these measures.
