The UAE Ranks First Arab Country in the Women, Peace, and Security Index

The Women, Peace, and Security Index, produced by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) and the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), has recently released its fourth edition. The index covers 177 countries and economies regarding the status of women, based on 13 indicators categorized into three dimensions: inclusion (economic, social, political), justice (formal and informal discrimination), and security (at the individual and community level).

The range of scores on the Women, Peace, and Security Index varies widely between countries. Denmark scored the highest with a score of 0.932, while Afghanistan ranked the lowest with a score of 0.286. The UAE recorded the best result among Middle Eastern countries, ranking 22nd globally and first among Arab countries with a score of 0.868. Bahrain followed in 56th place with a score of 0.752, and Kuwait ranked 61st globally with a score of 0.742.

Saudi Arabia ranked 67th, followed by Oman at 75, and Israel at 80, which shared the same position with Qatar. Jordan ranked 92nd, followed by Tunisia at 96, Turkey at 99, Egypt at 110, the West at 114, Algeria at 118, Libya at 122, Lebanon at 128, Iran at 140, Mauritania at 151, Djibouti at 153, Palestine at 156, Sudan at 164, Iraq at 168, Somalia at 169, Syria at 171, and Yemen at 176, which is the second to last position.
