The Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdel Latif Deryan, urged "Lebanese political leaders and parliamentary blocs to apply the constitution and elect a president for the republic immediately, without ignoring the systems and laws stipulated by the public order in Lebanon, especially since Lebanon is going through one of the most dangerous and difficult times with ongoing Israeli aggression on its southern borders, continuous violations of human rights in occupied Palestine, and acts of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza."
During a meeting at the Dar al-Fatwa, Deryan received the Papal Ambassador to Lebanon, Paolo Borgia, and discussions focused on Lebanese affairs and the situation in the region. Borgia emphasized to Mufti Deryan during the meeting the importance of "deepening and strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two countries."
Mufti Deryan expressed his commitment to "coexistence in Lebanon" and affirmed that "there is no Lebanon without adhering to the principle of parity between Muslims and Christians." He stated, "Electing a president for the first presidency will restore balance to the Lebanese Republic, which is suffering from a vacancy and the collapse of its institutions."
He called on "Islamic and Christian religious authorities worldwide, especially Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, the Vatican, and the Muslim World League in Mecca, to pressure the international community, particularly decision-makers at the United Nations, to halt the Israeli aggression on Gaza and other Palestinian areas, in respect of human dignity and rights, so that peace and security may prevail in the region."
