Paid with His Life for a Selfie on Alexandria Beach

The young man Youssef Ali did not know that this photo would be the last he would take in his life, and that this view of the waves of the Alexandria sea would be his final one before his life ended in drowning. Youssef, who was 21 years old, fell into the water while trying to take a selfie on the rocks, after being struck by high waves.

The rescue police had earlier received notification of a young man drowning, and immediately security forces and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene of the accident. Captain Ihab Al-Malhi, the leader of "Good Divers" in Alexandria, stated that upon learning of the young man's drowning, he called upon all "Good Divers" to head to the area of the drowning and assist in retrieving him, according to "Al-Masry Al-Youm."

It is noteworthy that the drowning victim was a resident of the "Victoria" area in the eastern part of the governorate and was with his friends to take some photos, but the fierce waves overwhelmed him. This tragedy is not the first of its kind in Alexandria; however, it is the first drowning case of the new year 2024.
