Iraq Launches Campaign to Register Social Protection Beneficiaries for Health Insurance

The Iraqi Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, announced today, Sunday, the launch of a major campaign to register beneficiaries of social protection for health insurance. The ministry stated in a statement that "Minister Al-Asadi held a meeting with staff and employees of the Social Protection Department."

Al-Asadi confirmed that "the first phase saw the registration of 183 beneficiaries of social protection for health insurance through 29 registration points in Baghdad, including six points in the social protection sections." He added that "the second phase includes the registration of 200,000 beneficiaries, bringing the total number of registered individuals under health insurance to 383,000." He noted that "health departments have started registering social protection beneficiaries for health insurance in Baghdad, and then will move to other provinces according to the directives of the Prime Minister."

The minister clarified that "registration for health insurance is free and does not require any fees, and the Ministry of Health will provide a free health booklet for each beneficiary," pointing out that "visits to health centers and hospitals will cover all medical tests, surgical operations, and stay in private wards for free."
