ICC Decision Regarding Libya by the End of 2025

The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, announced his intention to conclude his investigation into crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in Libya since early 2011 by the end of 2025. In presenting his periodic report to the United Nations Security Council, the Prosecutor noted that "significant progress" has been made over the past 18 months, particularly due to improved cooperation from Libyan authorities. He emphasized that "our work is progressing at a faster pace to meet the legitimate expectations of the Libyan Council and its people." He mentioned that in the past six months, his teams have completed 18 missions in three regions of Libya, collecting 800 pieces of evidence, including visual and audio documents. He stated, "Of course, it will not be easy, but I hope this period will allow for new requests to issue arrest warrants." He added, "The goal is to execute the arrest warrants and apply preliminary proceedings before the court, concerning at least one of the arrest warrants by the end of 2025."
