Conflicting Accounts Surround the Death of Three Siblings in Baghdad

Conflicting accounts have emerged regarding a shooting incident in a housing complex (under construction) in Abu Ghraib, west of Baghdad. The victims' families have challenged the initial narrative based on the report from the security company responsible for protecting the complex. Family members of the three siblings (who were killed and injured in the incident) appeared in a video amidst the cries of women and children after one of their sons, born in 2001, was killed. They stated that "their children went to collect empty cans when the guards of the complex fired at them, resulting in the death of one brother and injuries to others."

They confirmed that after the shooting at their children, they went to rescue them, but the guards fired at them as well. This account contrasts sharply with the statement from the Baghdad Operations Command, which previously reported that "two individuals attempted to enter the (Asad Babel) residential site, which is under construction in Abu Ghraib, for the purpose of theft, prompting the civilian guards to fire at them, leading to one of them being killed."

Baghdad Operations clarified that "as a result of the gunfire, the victim's family and residents of the nearby village attempted to storm the site and fired indiscriminately, causing material damage to vehicles inside the complex." In response, a force from the Baghdad Operations Command cordoned off the site and arrested 16 suspects "who were involved in the incident, including the guards and the shooter, and handed them over to the relevant authorities to complete the legal procedures against them," according to the operations statement.
