The Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic Sheikh Abdul-Latif Deryan received the French Ambassador to Lebanon Anne Griot during a farewell visit marking the end of her diplomatic mission. The meeting served as an opportunity to discuss Lebanese affairs and strengthen cooperation between the two countries. The media office at the Dar al-Fatwa noted that "Mufti Deryan was informed by Ambassador Griot about the consultations conducted by the French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian with Lebanese leaders, which were constructive and positive." During the meeting, the Mufti emphasized that the efforts being made by the French envoy to help Lebanon emerge from its crisis should continue to achieve solutions.
The statement added: "The Mufti stressed that the countries of the Quintet Committee are a safety valve for Lebanon, and their efforts in seeking solutions to the presidential crisis stem from their concern for a free, independent, and future-oriented Lebanon, and for its resilient people enduring the suffering of difficult living conditions while awaiting the election of a unifying president who possesses the qualities demanded by the Lebanese as a starting point for the solution."
According to the statement, the Mufti urged "the political forces in Lebanon to cooperate with the Quintet Committee and the French envoy and respond to the proposals and initiatives presented to them to emerge from the dark tunnel overwhelming the nation in various aspects." He asserted that international efforts depend on Lebanese responsiveness to the proposals aimed at preserving Lebanon, beginning with the election of a president, then forming a government, and implementing reforms, expressing hope that these efforts would yield fruitful results in the near future, as failure would lead to loss for Lebanon and the Lebanese people.
