The Leadership Council of the "Progressive Socialist Party" held its meeting today, Saturday, in Mukhtara, chaired by the head of the Democratic Gathering, Deputy Taymour Jumblatt. Current developments and key issues were discussed. The Leadership Council reaffirmed the Progressive Party’s "firm stance alongside Palestine and its cause and the rights of its people, as well as the continuous support for Palestinians in confronting the crimes and brutality of the Israeli occupation." It emphasized the "necessity of effective Arab and international action to achieve a ceasefire, stop the aggression occurring in Gaza and the West Bank, open border crossings for humanitarian assistance, secure the basic right to water sources, and protect hospitals, schools, and relief institutions, before anything else."
The Council called on the Socialist International “to rise to the occasion, return to its historical commitment to the just rights of peoples, support the Palestinian cause, and uphold the values of justice, freedom, and human rights, so it does not become a mere witness to the Israeli massacre against Palestinians.” The party renewed its call for all political forces to "act based on the danger characterizing this phase, as Israeli aggression is occurring daily in the south, and this necessitates the activation of institutions, the election of a president, the activation of the government, preventing vacancies in military leadership and other institutions, stopping narrow internal bickering, and always being cautious of aggressive Israeli intentions to avoid entering into a large-scale war."
In the context of local issues, the Leadership Council addressed the judiciary, stressing "the necessity of decisiveness in holding accountable those involved in the university equations file and the arrests that occurred, as this affects the reputation of the entire educational sector and adds further factors of collapse to the accumulating crises."
