Real Madrid officially announced today, Monday, the signing of French star Kylian Mbappé, the former Paris Saint-Germain player, on a free transfer. Mbappé had announced his departure from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his contract, which concludes at the end of the current season, to join Real Madrid without a fee.
Real Madrid has pursued Mbappé several times; the first was in 2017 when he was a player for Monaco, but he chose to transfer to Paris Saint-Germain instead. The second attempt was in the summer of 2022 when Mbappé agreed on all details with Real Madrid before renewing his contract with PSG, a shocking move for the Madrid officials.
Recently, Real Madrid won the UEFA Champions League for the 15th time in its history, defeating Borussia Dortmund (2-0). Notably, Mbappé has played for Paris Saint-Germain since 2017, achieving numerous individual and collective accolades, becoming the club's all-time leading scorer.
Mbappé, 25 years old and the captain of France, announced his departure from Paris Saint-Germain in a video he posted on the platform X on May 10. He will officially join Real Madrid in July when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain ends on June 30, but he will be presented to the Spanish team's fans before joining the French national squad for the upcoming European Championship in Germany.
