Al-Shami: The Refugee Issue Has Not Been Seriously Addressed

The Deputy Prime Minister of the caretaker government, Saada Al-Shami, confirmed today that "there has not been a serious discussion in the last session regarding the formation of a committee for the Syrian refugee issue under my leadership, and no decision has been made about it. I have not announced my acceptance to head this committee, which may be necessary. The refugee issue has been under the responsibility of the General Security for years, and we have organized campaigns for the return of refugees, the latest of which was last week."

In an interview with "Al-Diyar," he stated that "this matter should be approached objectively and rationally, without incitement and without using racist language." He affirmed that "addressing this issue is very important, as it has become an economic and financial burden on Lebanon, in addition to the security aspect, as incidents, which are mostly individual, are increasing." Al-Shami concluded: "The demographic aspect is also important in approaching the file for a country with a very small area compared to other countries, and it is the most densely populated by refugees."
