The death toll in Turkey and Syria due to the earthquake that occurred on February 6 has surpassed 50,000, with Turkey reporting over 44,000 fatalities. The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced that the death toll in Turkey has risen to 44,218 as of Friday night. Adding the latest reported figure from Syria, which is 5,914, the total number of deaths in both countries exceeds 50,000.
AFAD stated that the country experienced 9,136 aftershocks following the major earthquake centered in Kahramanmaraş Province. The quake resulted in the deaths of 44,218 individuals across the provinces of Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakır, Adana, Adıyaman, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, and Elazığ. It confirmed that the number of people evacuated from affected areas reached 528,146.
Additionally, the Turkish Ministry of Emergency Situations reported a 4.7 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale on Friday evening in eastern Turkey. According to the statement, the earthquake's epicenter was at a depth of 5 kilometers, near the city of Sivas in eastern Turkey. There have been no reports of injuries or damages.
