On Monday, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid praised the security agreement between Baghdad and Tehran, while Iranian Chief of Staff General Mohammad Bagheri reaffirmed his country's support for Iraq's efforts to establish security and stability. This occurred during Rashid's reception of General Bagheri and his accompanying delegation at the Palace of Baghdad.
At the beginning of the meeting, General Bagheri conveyed the greetings of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to the Iraqi President, wishing the Iraqi people continued security, safety, and prosperity. In return, Rashid extended his greetings to the Supreme Leader and wished him good health, along with ongoing success for the Iranian leadership.
The Iraqi President emphasized the importance of developing relations between the two countries in security, political, and economic aspects, fostering training and technical cooperation, and joint efforts to ensure border security, combat drug trafficking, and utilize both countries' experiences in fighting terrorism. He praised the agreement between Iraq and Iran for border security and acknowledged Iran's support for Iraq in its fight against terrorist groups.
Rashid reiterated Iraq's consistent support for the Palestinian people in their legitimate rights and stressed the need to condemn the aggression against Palestinians and make international efforts to stop the war in Gaza.
For his part, General Bagheri renewed his country's support for Iraq's efforts in establishing security and stability and expressed Iran's desire to build bridges of cooperation and coordination in mutually relevant issues. He also commended the Iraqi President's speech at the climate conference in the United Arab Emirates.
