Assad Issues Law Regarding Syrian Ministry of Information

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has issued a law establishing a new Ministry of Information to replace the ministry that was founded in 1961, along with its rights and obligations. The purpose of the law is to enable the Ministry of Information to keep pace with developments in media and administrative systems worldwide and to enhance its role, especially in light of the significant and rapid expansion and evolution occurring in the media sector.

The new law places the ministry at the core of its role in strengthening the connection between media and society, producing a national media discourse based on the history and civilization of the Syrian people, and committed to the issues of the homeland and the citizen. It guarantees the citizen's right to access information and various media services, as well as the freedom to engage in media work and express opinions in national media outlets in accordance with the provisions of the constitution and law.

This law is intended to align its provisions with developments in the media world administratively and journalistically on one hand, and the ongoing modernization processes in the state for all laws and institutional work mechanisms on the other.
