Russia Ranked as the Second Largest Supplier of Natural Gas to Spain

Russia ranked second in terms of liquefied natural gas supplies to Spain in April, according to data published by the energy company "Ingas" on Saturday. According to the company's data, Spain purchased the equivalent of 5,342 GWh of liquefied natural gas from Russia in April 2024, accounting for nearly 20% of its total energy purchases. The company clarified that "Russia ranked second after Algeria in terms of liquefied natural gas supplies to Spain," noting that during the first four months of 2024, Madrid purchased approximately 26,854 GWh of gas from Russia, making it the second-largest LNG supplier. The company had earlier reported that "Spain bought 72,690 GWh of Russian LNG in 2023, compared to 53,859 GWh purchased in 2022. By the end of 2023, Russia became the third-largest supplier of gas to Spain." The Russian ambassador in Madrid, Yuri Klimenko, pointed out that "Spain became the main buyer of Russian gas in the European Union during 2022-2023."
