Atletico Madrid defeated Almeria (2-1) thanks to first-half goals from Alvaro Morata and Angel Correa, extending the winless streak of the bottom-ranked team in La Liga to 16 matches. With this victory, Atletico climbed to third place, tied with Barcelona, each with 34 points, but trailing five points behind leaders Real Madrid. Antoine Griezmann scored a goal for Atletico, but it was ruled offside; however, he assisted the first goal by regaining possession and passing to Morata, who dribbled inside the penalty area and skillfully rounded the goalkeeper to score in the 17th minute. Correa doubled the score five minutes later when he received a cross from Marcos Llorente and shot from close range at a tight angle following a movement initiated by Griezmann. Almeria reduced the deficit through Leo Baptistao, who scored about an hour into the match by capitalizing on a rebound from Atletico's goalkeeper Jan Oblak. Almeria, the only team in the league without a win this season, had several opportunities in the second half to seize a point, but Oblak stood firm against the visiting team's attempts, allowing coach Diego Simeone's team to return to winning ways after last week's loss to Barcelona.
