Title: Baisari Meets UNIFIL Commander Ahead of Security Council Discussions

The Acting Director General of General Security, Major General Elias Baisari, visited the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Naqoura today, Friday. He met with UNIFIL Commander General Arnaldo Latharo, where they reviewed the overall situation in the region, particularly in South Lebanon, in light of the main missions carried out by international forces to maintain security and stability in the area in implementation of Resolution 1701. This meeting comes ahead of ongoing discussions in the Security Council regarding the renewal of UNIFIL's mandate.

Baisari praised "the continuous support provided by UNIFIL leadership to Lebanon and its people, as well as the ongoing cooperation between them and the General Directorate of General Security." He also visited the Naqoura border security center, where he met with the center’s head and officers, became acquainted with field procedures, and provided necessary directives, commending "the center's work and the performance of military personnel."

Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants announced in a statement that "in the framework of the dialogue, coordination, and cooperation between Lebanese authorities and the United Nations represented by UNIFIL, the first meeting of the joint working team from both sides took place at the Grand Serail, with representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, and the Lebanese Army leadership, in addition to representatives from the UNIFIL leadership."

The meeting aimed to discuss the best ways to implement UNIFIL's mandate in Lebanon and to address field gaps. It was agreed to hold future meetings regularly to enhance the constructive and sustainable partnership between the two sides and to maintain stability in South Lebanon and the region. Lebanon emphasized its "respect and commitment to implementing all international resolutions issued by the United Nations," urging all concerned parties to "follow its example in this regard."
