After Benny Gantz, a member of the Israeli war cabinet consisting of three members, threatened last month to resign from the government led by Benjamin Netanyahu if a new war plan for Gaza was not adopted by June 8, U.S. efforts have intensified to persuade him to stay. Over the past few days, American officials have tried to prevent Gantz from resigning at this critical time. They reached out to the Israeli minister in an attempt to ascertain whether his departure from the war government could be postponed or avoided, especially in light of ongoing negotiations for a new deal, according to Israel's "Kan 11" channel.
Gantz has recently received numerous inquiries from families of the kidnapped, who urged him not to resign and to remain in the government longer, at least until a deal with Hamas is reached that would lead to the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza. However, Gantz's current plan still involves resigning tomorrow evening. Meanwhile, Netanyahu's office has scheduled a broad ministerial discussion on Gaza for next Sunday, one day after Gantz's deadline. A ministerial meeting that was supposed to take place yesterday was canceled without explanation.
