Title: Evacuation of Schools in Greece After Receiving Threatening Messages

Greek police announced that they deployed around more than thirty schools and evacuated some in the suburbs of Athens after these educational institutions received electronic threat messages indicating they would be targeted by attacks originating from Russia. Police spokesperson Konstantina Dimoglido stated that "the emails targeted at least 35 schools and were sent from foreign countries such as Cyprus." She mentioned that "the server was detected in Russia" but did not rule out it being “junk mail.” The police noted that "the cybercrime division is conducting an investigation to identify the sender." A director of one of the schools, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that "the lengthy email was titled: There are explosives in the school." The sender specifically referenced the deadly jihadist attacks in Paris on November 13, 2015, writing "We will blow you up as our brothers did in Paris," according to the director. The police confirmed in their statement that some messages were received by "currently closed schools, indicating that the intent was primarily to disrupt public order."
