President Michel Aoun welcomed the ambassadors of the five-member committee at his residence in Rabieh, who briefed him on the summary of their meetings and their action plan "aimed at completing the presidential election." President Aoun emphasized "the necessity for the presidential candidate to have the intention and ability to address the crises facing Lebanon, particularly those concerning the economy and security, and to continue the investigations into financial crimes."
After the meeting, Egyptian Ambassador Alaa Moussa made a statement saying: "We were honored to meet with President Aoun, and in fact, we were keen to meet him for two important reasons. First, for his political symbolism, and second for his long experience and expertise." He added: "In reality, we were eager to listen to his advice and presented to him our plan for action in the upcoming period, including what the committee envisions as a course of action in the coming days leading up to the election of a president."
The Egyptian ambassador noted that "President Aoun provided us with many important pieces of advice that I believe will greatly benefit the committee's work in its upcoming meetings with various political forces. Today we have a busy day of meetings, and we hope to continue, God willing, at the beginning of next month with the remaining political blocs to reach a common ground that will allow us to make a breakthrough on this difficult file. We hope all these efforts will lead us to resolve this issue as soon as possible."
