Italian Deputy Prime Minister Visits Lebanon: Urges Swift Presidential Election

During his two-day visit to Lebanon, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, Antonio Tajani, conveyed a message to Lebanese political and institutional authorities, emphasizing "the Italian government's closeness to Lebanon and its intention to reinforce Italy's historical commitment to a safe and stable Lebanon." Tajani stressed the importance of expediting the election of a President of the Republic and forming a new government to implement a reform and renewal agenda based on the agreements reached with the International Monetary Fund, during his meetings with Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri. He noted that "on these foundations, and within the framework of growth diplomacy, it will be possible to enhance and revive bilateral economic relations." To this end, he announced the upcoming organization of trade delegations between Lebanon and Italy to strengthen industrial and commercial partnerships between the two countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister, in discussions with the Minister of Defense in the caretaker government, Maurice Slim, and Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, reaffirmed "Italy's ongoing support for the security and stability of Lebanon, which are essential for the entire region." This support is also reflected in the work of the Italian bilateral military mission MIBIL and the equipment and resources provided as donations to the Lebanese Army, as well as through the participation of the Italian battalion in UNIFIL. He also visited the two Italian bases in Qarantina and Shamaa, bringing greetings and thanks from the Italian government to the military personnel for their contributions to enhancing the operational capabilities of the Lebanese security forces and maintaining peace. On this occasion, he pointed out that "diplomacy, developmental cooperation, and armed forces are essential parts of Italy's strong presence in Lebanon, which daily contributes to strengthening relations between the two countries."
