An Israeli official stated that Israel will send a high-level delegation led by the head of the intelligence agency (Mossad) to Qatar today, Monday, to conduct mediated talks with the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) aimed at securing a six-week ceasefire in Gaza, during which Hamas is to release 40 hostages. The official estimated that this phase of negotiations could take at least two weeks, pointing out the difficulties Hamas negotiators may face in communicating with the movement within the besieged sector after more than five months of war. According to an Israeli official quoted by Reuters on Monday, Israel "will offer a 6-week ceasefire in Gaza in exchange for the release of 40 captives."
