Meeting in Cairo to Resume Ceasefire Negotiations and Release of Prisoners

CIA Director Bill Burns and the U.S. President's Senior Middle East Advisor Brett McGurk met with senior security officials from Egypt and Israel today, Monday, in Cairo, to discuss the hostages agreement and a ceasefire in Gaza, as well as arrangements for securing the borders between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, according to Axios. Axios reported its information from four Israeli and American officials.

The security arrangements on the border between Egypt and Gaza are among the main issues that need to be resolved before reaching a potential agreement regarding the hostages and ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Egypt refuses to reopen the Rafah crossing on its side as long as Israel remains in control of the Palestinian side.
