Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola has nominated the England national team to win the Euro 2024 championship set to take place next summer in Germany, following their near misses in major tournaments. England reached the semifinals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, under their current manager Gareth Southgate, and the quarterfinals in the 2022 edition in Qatar, as well as advancing to the final of Euro 2020 before losing to Italy.
Guardiola noted that "England's performance is similar to City's in the Champions League, which City won for the first time in their history last season after numerous failures." The Spanish coach told reporters ahead of his team’s Premier League match against Wolverhampton on Saturday: "The national team? Really good. But it’s not just about the strikers’ talent; it’s about all aspects and the entire group. Gareth knows exactly what he needs to do."
He added: "I feel, and everyone feels, that the England team in recent tournaments, the World Cup and the Euro, has made significant strides and was actually on the verge of winning. They lost in the final and advanced to the semifinals. When you reach these stages every two years, success will come, and that reflects our situation perfectly. We got close, and in the end, we lifted the trophy. That’s for sure."
In Euro 2024, which kicks off on June 14, England will compete in a group alongside Slovenia, Serbia, and Denmark.
