The Hamas movement announced in a statement regarding an Israeli proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages held there that it is determined to finalize an agreement that achieves a complete cessation of war, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the return of displaced persons.
Hamas stated: "We are going to Cairo with the same positive spirit to reach an agreement. We affirm the positive spirit with which the movement's leadership dealt when considering the proposal for a ceasefire."
It added: "We are determined to develop the agreement to achieve a complete end to the war, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the return of displaced persons. We will send a delegation on Saturday to Cairo to participate in discussions about the ceasefire proposal."
A Hamas official mentioned on Friday that a delegation from the movement will visit Cairo on Saturday, amid expectations that the movement will send a written response to the Israeli proposal regarding a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages held there.
The Hamas official, who requested anonymity, made the statement after an Egyptian security source and three sources at Cairo International Airport reported that William Burns, the Director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), had arrived in the Egyptian capital to attend meetings related to the conflict in Gaza.
Mediators indicate they are awaiting Hamas's response to the latest version of a proposal that includes a ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages held in the strip.
