Tunisian authorities announced today, Friday, the rescue of 47 irregular migrants whose boats were taking on water off the eastern coast of the country. The General Directorate of National Guard stated in a statement: "Units of the maritime guard in the coastal region (the states of Mahdia, Monastir, and Sousse) received an urgent report regarding the malfunction of several boats at sea that were taking on water and carrying a group of irregular Tunisian migrants." It added that the security units "managed to rescue and save the passengers, totaling 47 individuals, including a pregnant woman and an infant, and evacuated them quickly and efficiently, providing the necessary first aid to the passengers." It continued that "the irregular migrants were transferred to nearby ports to provide additional medical care, register their data, and take legal action regarding their cases."
