"German Donation" for Lebanese Customs

A ceremony took place at the Port of Beirut today, Wednesday, to receive a donation from the German government to the Lebanese customs, which includes equipment to support the work of the Container Control Unit in the Port of Beirut. The event was attended by the German ambassador to Lebanon, Kurt George Stokl - Stilfeid, the acting president of the Supreme Council of Customs, Rima Makki, the acting director general of customs, Raymond Khoury, and the regional coordinator for the Container Control Program, who emphasized the importance of this support in enhancing the Lebanese customs' capabilities to secure borders and combat smuggling.

Makki praised the good relations and close cooperation between the two countries, recognizing the continuous support from Germany since the beginning of the Container Control Program, which has resulted in improved monitoring operations. For his part, the German ambassador commended the collaboration with customs and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, highlighting the significance of the Container Control Program, especially in addressing regional and national challenges, and stressing the need to enhance regional cooperation in this field, thanking all the project partners for their commitment and efforts to make Lebanon safer. The ceremony concluded by reaffirming the continuation of this fruitful partnership between Lebanon and Germany.
