Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry revealed today, Tuesday, the true reason for the closure of the Rafah crossing, explaining that it has become a theater for military operations. During a joint press conference with his Cypriot counterpart in Cairo, Shoukry stated: "The Rafah crossing has turned into a military operations theater and has become a danger to truck drivers." He clarified: "There is stubbornness in delivering aid from the Israeli side," noting that "there are many victims among the workers from organizations trying to bring aid to Gaza."
"We agreed on the necessity of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the entry of aid to the sector, and we discussed Cyprus's efforts to deliver aid to Gaza through maritime routes," said Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry during the press conference with his Cypriot counterpart.
He added: "We continue to call for the opening of crossings to allow aid into Gaza and to provide conditions to address the humanitarian situation in northern Gaza." Regarding the meeting with the Cypriot minister, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated: "The discussion table confirms the depth and strength of the relations between Egypt and Cyprus." He also explained that "there was a focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation (in investment, energy, maritime transport, and tourism) between the two countries," noting that "they discussed developments in the war in Gaza and ways to resolve the current crisis in all its dimensions."
