Lebanon's Foreign Minister in the caretaker government, Abdallah Bou Habib, met with the head of the Lebanese Forces party, Samir Geagea, in Maarab, in the presence of MPs Melhem Riachi and George Akis, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Richard Kiyomjian, and former MP Imad Wakim, assistant secretary for diaspora affairs. Bou Habib pointed out that "the meeting revolved around the issue of displaced persons or refugees, hoping that we can succeed in returning them to their countries with dignity and safety, considering we do not want anyone to return against their will." He emphasized the existing disagreement with the Europeans, who wish to keep them in Lebanon without dialogue with us.
Regarding the negligence in handling the displacement file by the Lebanese government, Bou Habib stated that "not all ministers participate in government sessions, as you know, even if there are no internal disagreements among them, given the decision from the Prime Minister for each minister to follow up with their Syrian counterpart if there are communications between them, and we adopt this method as we see it best." He added that "the issue of displacement cannot be resolved in Syria but requires the international community, which is mostly composed of Europeans, who are supposed to cooperate with us to address it fundamentally."
Regarding his potential participation in the government delegation to Syria, Bou Habib said, "I will visit Syria as the Lebanese Foreign Minister, and the decision to form the committee is up to the Prime Minister, particularly since it was formed in my absence as I do not attend ministerial sessions."
