Israeli Soldiers Leak Dangerous Information: What's the Story?

The Guardian reported that members of the Israeli military and security forces are leaking information to far-right Israeli activists and settlers about the locations of trucks transporting humanitarian aid to Gaza, leading them to attack and obstruct the trucks' progress into the region, damaging their contents. This information was also mentioned in an Israeli Haaretz report explaining how Israeli groups coordinate their actions via WhatsApp to target aid convoys.

The Guardian cited a member of the group, stating that individuals from Israeli security forces provide them with necessary information to attack the trucks. These activists believe that the assistance sent to Gaza does not reach civilians and is seized by Hamas. However, the British newspaper recalled that U.S. officials previously stated that Israel had provided no evidence to support claims that Hamas is diverting aid.

A spokesperson for one of the far-right Israeli groups commented, "The job of a police officer or soldier is supposed to be to protect Israelis, but instead, they are sent to protect aid convoys, knowing they will end up in Hamas’s hands." They added, "We cannot blame security forces for leaking security information." These groups accuse their government of "giving gifts to Hamas."

Last week, the Israeli military announced a 20-day prison sentence for a soldier who refused orders to disperse gatherings attempting to obstruct aid convoys. The Guardian noted that it had reviewed conversations among members of these groups demonstrating their coordinated efforts to target aid convoys, confirming leaks from members of the Israeli police and military to these groups.
