Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri received UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix and the accompanying delegation at the second presidential headquarters in Ain Tineh, in the presence of UNIFIL Commander General Arldo Lazaro, the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka, and Berri's media advisor Ali Hamdan. They discussed the overall situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as recent developments in light of Israel's ongoing aggressive war on Gaza and Lebanon.
Lacroix emphasized "the commitment of the Secretary-General and the United Nations to Lebanon and their continued efforts with the international community to de-escalate and reach a permanent ceasefire," expressing concern over "the continued escalation in the region and in Lebanon."
President Berri praised "the efforts being made by the international peacekeeping forces during this phase, witnessing the daily Israeli escalation, which affects deep residential areas and civilians, as well as ambulances and journalists, violating not only UN Resolution 1701 but all rules of engagement."
Berri presented the UN envoy with a study prepared by the National Council for Scientific Research, "which includes a comprehensive survey of Israeli aggressions, their locations, the damages caused, the number of civilian martyrs, and the agricultural and forested areas affected by fires due to targeting with internationally prohibited phosphorus bombs."
Berri also met with Qatari Ambassador Sheikh Saud bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, discussing the general situation in Lebanon, the region, and political and field developments.
