Unknown individuals threw a bomb towards the LBCI building, causing an explosion that resulted in material damage. Elements from the military intelligence and security forces, as well as the information branch, arrived at the scene and began investigations. The channel had faced various criticisms and threats due to the show "Taa Qlo Be Zel," presented by comedians Hussein Qawq and Mohamed Daikh.
In this context, the Media Commission of the Progressive Socialist Party condemned the attack on LBCI, calling on security forces and the judiciary to put an end to this recurring series of assaults on media outlets and journalists, and to punish the perpetrators, in order to protect a fundamental feature in Lebanon: media freedoms. The Commission stated that any act of sabotage against the media is unacceptable, condemned, and unjustified. Any issue arising in the media should be addressed through media channels and legal recourse, nothing else.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Najib Mikati made a call to Pierre Daher, the chairman of the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation, reassuring him after the attack that targeted the station's building with a bomb thrown by an unknown person. Mikati confirmed to Daher that security investigations would intensify to clarify the circumstances of the incident, and that responsible media freedom would remain safeguarded and not intimidated by such assaults. Mikati also checked on the safety of the station's employees.
Joseph Kanso, the head of the Lebanese Press Editors’ Syndicate, also condemned the action of unknown individuals throwing a bomb towards the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation, which caused material damage. He stated that the Editors' Syndicate denounces what happened against the station and urges security and judicial authorities to take immediate action to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice, revealing the circumstances of this grave incident that threatens media freedom in Lebanon by targeting one of its leading institutions. He emphasized that violence against journalists, media personnel, and the institutions they work for is unacceptable under any pretext and that he is grateful for the safety of his colleagues and those working at the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation. The Syndicate announced its solidarity with them and stands by them.
Additionally, the gathering of electronic websites issued a statement concerning the serious and condemnable assault represented by the mobile suppression of freedoms that involved throwing a bomb at LBCI. The gathering considered that the series of assaults on media outlets has taken on an organized character, as part of a clear attempt to silence journalists and the voices of the people. They emphasized that differing opinions should never justify attacks on media buildings or against journalists, urging the security apparatus to act decisively against anyone threatening media in the country and to apprehend the perpetrators. The gathering expressed complete solidarity with LBCI and its colleagues, wishing them safety.
