The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the success of mediation efforts conducted by the United Arab Emirates between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, which led to the completion of a prisoner exchange involving 180 prisoners from both sides. This successful mediation, which is considered the fifth of its kind since the beginning of this year, reflects the friendship and partnership between the UAE and both countries, establishing the UAE as a trusted mediator for both parties.
The Ministry expressed gratitude to the governments of both the Russian Federation and Ukraine for their cooperation, which contributed to the success of the UAE's efforts. The ministry emphasizes the UAE's continued endeavors to support all efforts and initiatives aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict between the two countries, reaffirming that dialogue, de-escalation, and embracing a diplomatic path is the only way to resolve the crisis and will help mitigate its humanitarian impacts.
It is noteworthy that UAE-mediated efforts have successfully completed four prisoner exchange operations between Russia and Ukraine since the beginning of the year. Additionally, in December 2022, the UAE successfully facilitated the exchange of two prisoners between the United States and the Russian Federation.
