Immediately after the resignation of Israeli War Minister Benny Gantz, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir requested Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to join the Israeli war council. Ben Gvir announced that he submitted a request to Netanyahu to join the war council instead of Gantz and Gadi Eisenkot.
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich considered Gantz's withdrawal from the war council as an irresponsible political move aimed at disrupting unity. He called on leaders of Zionist parties who care about Israel to join a unity government to achieve victory. In response to Gantz's statements, he said, "This is exactly what Sinwar, Nasrallah, and Iran aimed for, and unfortunately, you are fulfilling their request."
