French authorities have begun evicting several thousand homeless migrants from the streets of Paris ahead of the Olympic Games, according to the New York Times. The newspaper noted that the homeless have been placed on buses and transported out of the city. It pointed out that initially, the homeless, including those from African countries, were promised housing elsewhere other than Paris, but they were ultimately abandoned in the streets, with some receiving threats of deportation. For its part, Macron's government denies that the relocation process is linked to the Olympics, stating that it is a "voluntary program" aimed at "alleviating the housing shortage in Paris." It is worth mentioning that earlier in June, The Guardian had already reported on the thousands of "undesirable" homeless individuals being removed from the city.
