Brothers Kill Mosque Imam Before Friday Sermon in Egypt

A state of sadness and sorrow has spread among the residents of Port Said Governorate in Egypt following the murder of young Mohamed Ahmed Awf by three brothers, incited by their sibling. Egyptian security forces managed to arrest the suspects just hours after the incident occurred.

The incident began when Mohamed Ahmed Awf, aged 40, was received at the hospital with a fatal stab wound to the abdomen, resulting from an assault in the Al-Qaboty neighborhood. Authorities permitted the burial of the body after examining the crime scene and questioning eyewitnesses.

Mohamed's mother stated that her son had woken up to prepare for the Friday sermon, which he volunteered to deliver for the residents of Al-Qaboty. He went to carry out his duties until the time of the call to prayer. Children from their neighborhood began throwing stones at their home, prompting her to step out and talk to them about stopping this behavior. An argument ensued between the kids, but no one expected it would escalate to murder.

The mother mentioned that their neighbors had always envied her son and had previously threatened to bury him. She indicated that after her son returned home, the suspect Fouad called his brothers Mohamed and Sayid, and they began insulting the women, accusing her son of being fearful. He confronted them without any weapon for self-defense, leading to an attack by two brothers, and then their brother Sayid fatally stabbed him once.

The mother has called on the relevant authorities for justice for her son and expressed confidence in the Egyptian judiciary to restore her rights. She believes that the investigations conducted by the public prosecutor will lead to their execution, and confirmed that security forces have been protecting their home since the day of the incident, in addition to the arrests made.
