The media office of the Iraqi Prime Minister announced today, Saturday, that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani laid the foundation stone for the rehabilitation and construction project of the second lane of the (Basra - Faw) road in Basra Governorate." The office stated in a release: "Al-Sudani reviewed the details of the project, the timelines for its completion, and emphasized that the government has raised the slogan of services due to the urgent needs of citizens in various sectors." It highlighted that "the (Basra - Faw) road will alleviate the suffering of the residents of al-Faw district due to the poor condition of this road."

Al-Sudani pointed out that "Al-Faw city has become a vital area for Iraq today, and there is a need to improve its infrastructure, especially roads," affirming that "the rehabilitation project of the (Basra - Faw) road, which is being implemented from the allocations of Basra Governorate, is one of the important projects in terms of the volume of vehicle traffic, whether for transporting citizens or goods."

The Prime Minister directed the executing company to adhere to "the timelines and comply with the required specifications according to the prepared plan." The statement added that "the length of the (Basra - Faw) road is (90) km in the outbound direction and (65) km in the return direction, and the rehabilitation operations include the establishment of model rest areas, installation of safety fences, traffic and informational signs, as well as laying a fiber optic cable along (75) km and establishing an electrical network with all its accessories over a length of (10) km."
