Earthquakes are the result of movements in the Earth's crust, occurring when trapped energy is released suddenly.
Dutch seismologist Frank Hoogerbeets has warned that the Earth will be in conjunctions involving Mercury and Venus today, June 4th, which may lead to significant seismic activity, likely between June 6th and 8th, following the new moon on June 6th.
How do earthquakes occur?
There are several ways that can cause earthquakes:
1. **Collision between tectonic plates**: This occurs when tectonic plates slide or collide with each other. This movement causes energy to accumulate along the boundaries between the plates, and when there is a sudden shift, it releases earthquake energy.
2. **Separation slip**: This happens when tectonic plates rapidly separate. It can occur due to the formation of cracks in the Earth's crust or due to slips in glaciers or ground movements.
3. **Volcanic activity**: When volcanoes erupt or lava flows, this can lead to volcanic earthquakes. Earthquakes may occur due to movements of rocks surrounding the volcano.
4. **Geological compression**: This occurs when rocks suddenly bend due to geological compression, which can cause rocks to move and release earthquake energy.
When these movements happen and energy is released, seismic waves travel through the rocks and reach the Earth's surface, causing the tremors we experience.
