After Burning Dogs in Baalbek... "Khodr" Claims

After Burning Dogs in Baalbek...

The image of the small burned dog that spins in pain in Baalbek remains etched in our minds even after the arrest of the perpetrator of this offense at the direction of the environmental prosecutor in Baalbek, Judge Iyad Al-Bardan, who referred the case to the public prosecutor's office in Baalbek.

Today, less than a week later, social media erupted with news of a child no older than ten years old setting six puppies on fire in the same area.

Baalbek-Hermel Governor Bashir Khodr tweeted expressing his shock, confirming that he has filed a complaint with the judiciary, and that the child and his father have been summoned to the station at the direction of the environmental prosecutor in Baalbek, Judge Iyad Al-Bardan, awaiting the arrival of a juvenile representative to begin interrogating him. Despite the efforts we are making to establish a shelter for stray dogs, and despite all the media coverage of the crimes committed against them, we were shocked today by the news of a child (10 years old) burning six puppies in Baalbek; one puppy was rescued. We will file a complaint with the judiciary. We reiterate that we need to reconsider education and the laws. #Bashir_Khodr

In a special interview with "Wardna," Khodr emphasized the seriousness of the incident, pointing out that laws related to this type of crime are not strict enough, expressing his deep concern about how a child could burn a dog and what this could mean for the future, considering that someone who can burn an animal today might be able to do the same to a human in the future. He stressed the need to reconsider education and the laws.

In this context, he announced the start of practical steps, where the governorate, in cooperation with the Baalbek municipality, is working on establishing a shelter for stray dogs, with the project expected to be completed within a month. Khodr had previously announced the launch of the second phase of the stray dog shelter project in Baalbek and the commencement of training courses for volunteers.
