TrueCaller Can Now Detect AI-Generated Voices

TrueCaller, the leading global communication platform, has unveiled a new feature aimed at combating spam and fraudulent calls: the AI Call Scanner. This new feature is designed for "using AI to fight AI," as stated by the company. The AI Call Scanner can alert users in real-time—during the phone call—if the voice they hear is generated by artificial intelligence.

The AI Call Scanner is trained to detect and differentiate between human voices and AI-generated sounds, enabling users to protect themselves against fraud and potential fraudulent activities. When receiving a suspicious call, users can tap a button within the app to activate the AI Call Scanner, which then integrates the call with a secure line that records a sample of the caller’s voice. This sample is analyzed through TrueCaller’s advanced AI model, which quickly determines whether the voice is human or AI-generated.

To use the AI Call Scanner feature, TrueCaller must be set as the default calling app. If a call appears suspicious, users can click the "Start AI Detection" button in the app to temporarily pause the call while the AI analyzes the voice. A message indicating "Analyzing" will appear, signifying that the AI is working, and during the call, users will receive a message clarifying whether the voice is human or AI-generated, allowing for immediate action.

TrueCaller also states that it is exploring ways to enhance the AI Call Scanner feature, including improving accuracy, reducing response times, and adapting to new voice synthesis technologies.
