The International Court of Justice announced today, Friday, that it will express its opinion on the legal consequences of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories on July 19. A record number of 52 countries presented arguments and submissions to the court in February to unveil the legal ramifications of Israel's actions in the Palestinian territories after the UN General Assembly requested the court's advice in 2022, which is a non-binding opinion. Although Israel has ignored such opinions in the past, the court's opinion next week could increase political pressure on it due to its ongoing nine-month-long devastating war in the Gaza Strip against the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement (Hamas). The UN-affiliated court is the only international tribunal that settles disputes between states and provides advisory opinions on international legal issues.
