Fear in Israel of Egyptian Army Reaching Tel Aviv via Gaza Tunnels

Fear in Israel of Egyptian Army Reaching Tel Aviv via Gaza Tunnels

"Did Egypt help in creating the Gaza tunnels for a potential attack on us?" With this headline, the Israeli news site nziv claimed a connection between the Gaza tunnels and the Egyptian army. The Hebrew site pointed out that at the beginning of the war on Gaza, a large tunnel opening was discovered in northern Gaza that vehicles could pass through. The Egyptians, who facilitated Hamas arming, have expressed their opposition in various ways to the Israeli army's seizure of the Philadelphia Corridor.

It added that an overlooked aspect is the military side of these tunnels spread along the Egyptian border with Gaza, as Hamas tunnels could serve as a significant shortcut for the Egyptian army to reach the heart of Israel. The Hebrew site noted that during the 1948 war, the emerging Israeli army managed to halt the Egyptian army on the outskirts of Ashkelon after being stopped by settlers from the kibbutzim who blocked its path to prevent deeper incursions into Israel.

The site questioned: "What would happen if, tomorrow, a division of the Egyptian army emerged from a tunnel in northern Gaza at midnight and headed towards Tel Aviv and the air bases there? What occurred on October 7 would seem like child’s play in comparison."
