The Egyptian Dar al-Ifta announced that it was unable to sight the crescent moon of the month of Shawwal for the year 1445 AH, stating that Wednesday, April 10, 2024, will be the first day of the blessed Eid al-Fitr. The Egyptian Dar al-Ifta mentioned that it observed the crescent for Shawwal after sunset on Monday, the 29th of Ramadan, corresponding to April 8, 2024, through the legal and scientific committees spread across the Republic.

It was confirmed, according to religious law, that it was not possible to sight the crescent of Shawwal for the year 1445 AH. On Sunday, the International Astronomy Institute in Egypt confirmed the date of Eid al-Fitr in the country, stating it will be on Wednesday. It noted in a statement that the crescent of Shawwal will be born after conjunction at 8:22 PM Cairo time on Monday, the 29th of Ramadan, corresponding to April 8.

It was also clarified that the new crescent moon would not be born after sunset in Cairo and most Arab capitals that day, where the moon sets in its old crescent phase about 10 minutes before sunset in Cairo and other governorates.

A statement from the Grand Mufti of Lebanon, Sheikh Abdul-Latif Deryan, noted: "We have not confirmed the sighting of the crescent moon of Shawwal, so tomorrow, Tuesday, April 9, is the completion of the month of Ramadan for thirty days; thus, Wednesday, April 10, 2024, will be the first day of Eid al-Fitr for the year 1445 AH."
