Amid the ongoing Israeli attack on the border city of Rafah with Egypt, social media sites are witnessing widespread circulation of videos praising the Egyptian military strength. Recently, a video has circulated, purportedly showing Egyptian army training. However, this claim is misleading, as the video is actually from military training in Afghanistan, showcasing individuals in military attire and masks conducting weapon drills.
The video has received thousands of shares and comments lauding Egyptian military power, similar to various other clips that have gained traction alongside the continued Israeli assault on the densely populated city of Rafah, which is home to many displaced Palestinians at the Egypt border.
Suspicion surrounding the truth of the accompanying claims for this video arises from the appearance of a logo on the face covers and banners within the video, which do not resemble any Egyptian military insignia. A search for this logo on "Google Lens" indicates that it belongs to the "Emirate of Afghanistan," thereby denying any connection of the training to the Egyptian army.
When the video was searched after cutting it into still scenes, a post was found on a YouTube channel from two weeks ago showing maneuvers of the "Afghan National Islamic Army." In this video, the new Afghan flag adopted by the Taliban ("the white flag + There is no god but Allah") can be seen at the 21-second mark, along with writings in Afghan language at the 33-second mark.
